Trooper is a red and white Chihuahua mix, he's 12 lbs and 12 years old. He's neutered and up to date on his vaccines and monthly preventatives. Trooper is heartworm positive and is currently receiving treatment. His adopters will be provided with the medications they need to continue his treatment.
Trooper is as resilient as his name suggests! This sweet senior, likely dumped, found himself in a strange neighborhood. Luckily he was found by a kind person, who registered him to complete his home stray hold with them, then was transferred to Fawn's to join our foster program.
Medically Trooper is doing well for a senior dog, he does have a hernia and mild vision limitation. The vet said that the hernia isn't causing pain or affecting his quality of life. His vision limitation is a bit odd, he sees better in dimmer light instead of bright light. This means he can get startled more easily during the day by unexpected movement. His foster is going to have him try some doggles, dog goggle sunglasses, to see if that helps.
Trooper loves burrowing in blankets, cozying up with people, and most of all pets and scratches. He hasn't been tested with small children or cats. His foster home has a older teen, He'd do best in a home with adults or dog-savvy teens as he can get startled by unexpected noises and movement. Cuddling and snuggling enthusiasts please apply!
Trooper is doing well with house and potty training. He's most successful when he gets to go out on a fairly regular schedule. He's happy to do his business on a leash or in a yard.
Trooper has done well with his big dog foster siblings, you can see a picture of all of them in his profile. He isn't interested in playing with them. He's happy to lounge around with them nearby. He does occasionally resource guard food from the other dogs. He's been doing well with corrections from his foster and he'd do well in a home with respectful doggie siblings of all sizes. He'd adore the opportunity to be an only child and soak up all the love for himself.
As a distinguished gentleman, Trooper prefers high quality wet food. His absolute favorite food is Farmer's dog, it was kindly donated to his foster and he absolutely adored it! If the quality of food is not to his liking, Trooper ignores his bowl until he's so hungry he forgoes his strike and eats it. His foster is trying to find a compromise of wet and dry food. She's mixing it together so the dry food becomes nice, soft, and perfectly flavored by the wet food for Trooper's enjoyment. It's very common for senior dogs to preferred their dry food softened and delight in wet food.
Trooper's ideal home has adopters who are around throughout the day. This will help continue his house and potty training success. He can live with adults and would do fine with respectful teens. Trooper hasn't met any cats. He's rated for dogs big and small, he'd definitely enjoy being an only child. He's yard optional since he's happy to go potty on a leash.
