Storm is likely a Chihuahua/Terrier mix, he's around 4 years old and about 12 lbs. He's neutered, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines and monthly preventatives. He's a charming brown and white fellow with heterochromia, which means his eyes are different colors, one blue eye and one brown eye.
Storm is an energetic and vocal boy who loves attention, naps, and destroying toys. Once you get to know each other, he becomes a playful, sweet boy who paws and whines for your attention.
Storm takes some time to warm up to new people and situations. He's a nervous boy with new people, especially young children. He's not a fan of very young children and would do best in a home with respectful, dog-savvy teens. When he's frightened by new people he'll click is teeth to try to intimidate. While he acts tough at first, he's more likely to cower or run off - especially when faced with a harness and leash. Leash and harness training are a work in progress and his adopters will need to help him and continue his training. Thankfully he loves treats, which is good for training but he needs to be trained separately when food is involved.
Storm came from a situation with 10 other dogs, while he's fine to share toys he won't share food. He'll hover and attempt to intimidate a dog away from their food, even if he doesn't want to eat it. Right now it is wise to feed and train him separately, as he becomes more confident in his food security hopefully this will reduce over time.
Storm likes to be the dominant dog in his group of friends. He does best with similarly sized and smaller dogs. He's happy to share toys and likes to play. Be warned that he enjoys dissecting and destroying toys.
No big dogs for Storm, he's afraid of them and will growl and lunge to show his displeasure. On the other hand, cats interest Storm but also make him nervous. He keeps his distance from them, but if they run he'll chase them. One time a brave kitty came up and rubbed up against Storm, Storm wagged his tail and then ran off! He might be okay living with a dog-savvy, feline friend.
Storm is doing well with house and potty training. He was recently neutered and his urge to mark indoors is reducing. Storm loves to dig out of the yard and go on adventures, he's a ringleader and would stage escapes at his prior home with George. Due to his digging enthusiasm, his foster takes him out to the yard on a leash. As he's still working on potty and leash training, Storm requires a securely fenced yard and supervision for his safety!
Sassy Storm is ready for a fur-ever family to call his own. He needs adopters who are patient and understanding. He can go to home with respectful, dog savvy teens. He'd be happy to have similarly sized or smaller doggie siblings to play with. His new home must have a securely fenced yard!
