IMPORTANT: When you adopt from Fawn's Small Dog Rescue 100% of all adoption donation are used to cover rescue expenses including veterinary care, prevention, and any necessary medications or special diets, etc. Each adoptable dog has a minimum donation listed in their profile, these donations allow us to continue caring for dogs in need.

About Poppy:

Poppy is a Shih Tzu with a black and white cookie colored coat. She's around 3 years old and just shy of 10 lbs. She's spayed, heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccines and monthly prevention. She's one of the GA breeder dogs, she's likely blind and is missing an eye, her intact eye has a cataract.
Poppy the pirate princess recently decided to fully focus on her princess duties. She may have lost an eye in her previous pirate-y life but it doesn't slow her down in the slightest. She loves people, including her 5 and 7 year old human siblings, and snuggling. She's becoming one of the cutest couch potatoes you've ever seen; and recently discovered that the best place to nap is on your lap!
Poppy is working on house, potty, and leash training. She still has accidents in the house, thankfully as a small dog the accidents are a quick clean up. Given her background and vision limitations, she's making great progress. Her fosters are taking her to the yard to run and play, which is building her confidence. She likes to walk next to you, which is a good first step for her leash training. She'd benefit from a fenced yard but its not a requirement.
Poppy is comfortable with other small dogs and cats, she recently started showing interest in playing with her doggie sibling. Given her background it's likely that she may have lacked the experience or confidence to dabble in playing. She likes having friends around, though she prefers people. She's the best greeting committee, when you arrive home she'll run in excited circles to herald your return! If you're home most of the day, Poppy could be a solo dog. If you're out and about, she'd do best with a friendly and calm canine companion.
Princess Poppy is ready for her fur-ever family. She's rated for small dogs, cats, and respectful kids (5+). She needs patient and loving adopters who understand her background and recognize that she'll need time and encouragement to acclimate to her new home. She'd do best with people who are around more often than not, especially if she's going to be an only dog. If Poppy is your cookies and cream dream dog, we'd love to see an application from you!
