Gizmo is a mini long-hair Dachshund, with a handsome sable and white coat. He's around 10 lbs and 4-5 years old. He's neutered, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines and monthly preventatives.
Gizmo came from a breeder turned hoarding situation. He was born with swimmers legs. Unfortunately, the breeder did nothing to help Gizmo and he was never treated for this medical issue as a puppy. Read about swimmers legs. Gizmo has made adjustments and walks well. He uses socks to help him get around on hardwood floors, carpet is easier for him. He can run, even jump and use the stairs!
Gizmo is doing well with house and potty training. If he has access to potty pads in the house, he may use them as a back up. His foster puts him in a belly band if she must be away for more than a few hours. For the most part, Gizmo happily follows his foster siblings and goes potty outside in the yard.
Given Gizmo's background, he does surprisingly well with humans. He does best with adults, he standoffish and avoids toddlers and babies, he hasn't been tested with older children. Gizmo does great with similarly sized dogs up to 25 pounds. He's met neighborhood cats and been very curious, the cats in his neighborhood are confident and ignore him for the most part. As a Dachshund, he does have a prey drive and has tried to chase squirrels.
While Gizmo enjoys humans and likes quality lap time, he also enjoys the company of other dogs. He's happy to share a lap with a doggie friend and his ideal home has similarly sized doggie siblings - the more the merrier!
Gizmo's ideal home has wonderful, understanding adopters with a securely fenced yard. He'd do best in an adult only home. He needs one or more doggie siblings, he'd happily share a fur-ever home with Sailor. If Sailor and Gizmo are adopted as a pair, they can be adopted into a home with no other dogs. His adopters should read about swimmers legs.
