The requirements for my ideal home:

  • Dog-savvy cats

  • Adults and older children/teens

Bella is a black and tan Dachshund and Chihuahua mix (affectionately called a Chiweenie), she's 14 yrs and a robust 14 lbs. She is spayed, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines and monthly preventatives.

Bella is a sweet and feisty beauty! Don't let her age fool you, she may be 14 but she doesn't let a number slow her down. She's an energetic lady who enjoys going for walks, which is letting her walk off some extra pounds she acquired while injured. Poor Miss Bella, when she went to the vet for her dental her foster had them double check Bella's shoulder because of a periodic limp. This poor darling had a dislocated shoulder! The silly shoulder is now back where it belongs and Bella is so happy and enjoys her walks even more.

Bella is a clever girl who loves chews and squeaky toys. She does come from a hoarding case background and has a tendency to resource guard - she has been very correctable. Some times this sassy girl snags something to chew that she shouldn't, her foster recommends picking up smaller items just in case Bella gets curious and tries to taste test them. She is working on "drop it" and can be distracted with a snack so you can snag your item back.

Bella does well with other dogs when she has appropriate introductions. Her foster home has a dog who's larger than her that she enjoys. When her foster was away, her temporary foster arranged a play date and trail walk with another foster with two small breed dogs - they all had a lovely time exploring. While with her temporary foster, Bella showed that she will chase cats given the opportunity, mostly to try and enjoy their food. She should go to a home with no cats or a confident dog-savvy cat who won't be phased by such wiles and sass.

Bella is doing good with house and potty training. She does best with a regular routine, she enjoys a yard however, she will go potty on a leash so a yard isn't required. When she first arrived at her foster, she was injured and did attempt to mark a few times in the house. She didn't do this with her temporary foster, however, she was a solo dog in that house. She did well with corrections and with regular potty breaks.

This chiweenie likes cozy couch cuddles and soft blankets to burrow in. Bring Bella a blanket and she'll dive under it, she's the perfect TV and chill buddy. She'll find you when she wants to alert you to her needs, she'll do a huff-puff and some times a little jump. This can mean that she needs to go potty or that she wants your time and attention.

Bella has been through a lot in her life. Her new home should have adopters who are home most of the day. She thrives on regular routine, especially for house and potty training success. She'd be okay with a doggie sibling, she'd adore being an only dog. No kids as she is still working on reducing her resource guarding tendencies. She could be placed with a dog-savvy cat, due to her tendency to chase for resources, a cat-free home is recommended. Given her Dachshund and Chihuahua traits, she'd do best in a home with adopters who are familiar with sassy, feisty small dogs. Bella needs people who love her and are willing to give her appropriate boundaries and continue her training.
