Welcome Date: 08/22/2025

Trooper

Medical: Heartworm positive

Gender: Male, fixed

Age: 12 years

Weight: 12 lbs

Breed: Chihuahua mix

Color: Red and white

My ideal home:

  • Yard preferred

  • Adults, dog-savvy teens

  • Doggie siblings optional

Medically Trooper is doing well for a senior dog, he has a hernia, arthritis, and mild vision limitation. The vet said that the hernia doesn't cause him pain or affect his quality of life. His vision limitation is a bit odd, he sees better in dimmer light instead of bright light. He can be startled more easily during the day by unexpected movement. Trooper takes medication to help him sleep through the night and manage his arthritis, which is fairly standard for senior dogs.

Trooper has done well with his big dog foster siblings, you can see a picture of all of them in his profile. He isn't interested in playing with them. He's happy to lounge around with them nearby. He does occasionally resource guard food from the other dogs. He's been doing well with corrections from his foster and he'd do well in a home with respectful doggie siblings of all sizes. He'd adore the opportunity to be an only child and soak up all the love for himself.

As a distinguished gentleman, Trooper prefers high quality wet food. His absolute favorite food is Farmer's dog, it was kindly donated to his foster and he absolutely adored it! it. He'll eat dry food when it's mixed with wet food or Farmer's dog with along with some water.

Trooper's ideal home has adopters who are around throughout the day. This will help continue his house and potty training success. He can live with adults and would do fine with respectful teens. Trooper hasn't met any cats. He's rated for dogs big and small, he'd definitely enjoy being an only child. He's yard optional since he's happy to go potty on a leash.
