Mikey is heartworm positive and undergoing treatment, his adopter will receive the medication needed to complete his treatment.
Mikey is a cutie pie and absolute snuggle bug. He's happiest when he is touching you and doesn't truly believe in personal space. He adores routine and enjoys following the human's schedule, he goes to bed and gets up with his foster human. He enjoys sleeping in the big bed and doesn't roam at night.
Mikey is essentially a puppy. Like most puppies he'll need patience, support, and continued training to ensure his success in the world. Especially if you work outside of the home. Thankfully he's food and treat motivated and follows cues from other dogs. While he takes a moment to warm up to other dogs, he'd do best with a confident and calm canine companion.
Mikey is doing well with house, potty, and leash training. Mikey is doing well going potty while leashed, he goes on 2-3 walks a day. Walks are a safe way for heartworm positive dog to get their energy out. He also loves to play, he enjoys balls and tug toys with his humans. He's practicing going on car rides and he's doing well on those adventures.
As a Hairless Chinese Crested, Mikey needs baths more than non hairless dogs as his skin is a lot like human skin. It becomes dry or oily, depending on the season, and he needs lotion. He also requires sun block to keep his skin safe from sunburning.
Mikey has a typical temperament of his breed, he picks his preferred humans and shadows them. He's always ready to escort you to the next room. Woe to those who leave him, whether you go to the bathroom alone or run errands, if Mikey is alone, he'll sing the house the song of his people. Thankfully, if he has a doggie friend with him, he'll settle down more quickly to wait or nap until your return.
Mikey is ready for his fur-ever home! Given his temperament, heartworm status, a home with breed experience is a must. He needs a home ready to continue his heartworm treatment and understands that they must limit his activity for his continued healing. Mikey has met cats and ignored them, when he's passed kids while out walking he's ignored them as well. Given his size and sass, he'd do best in a home with adults or teens. Since Mikey goes potty on a leash, he doesn't require a yard, though he'd enjoy one.
