Gus is doing well with house and potty training, his medical condition made potty pads a necessity. He does fairly well going on the pads, he prefers to go to the yard to do his business. He's harness and leash trained but doesn't like to do his business on walks, especially in suboptimal weather. He requires a yard in his new home, he'd be most successful with a securely fenced yard.
With a renewed enthusiasm for life, Gus has a lot of energy and wants to play! His primary playmate is a young cat, they play chase together. He has some depth perception issues which means he can be a bit like a bull in a china shop when he's playing. He was previously fostered with a very chill similarly sized dog around his age, they enjoyed playing together as well. As an attention hog, he's shown some resource guarding and he'd happily be an only dog in his new home. If there must be another dog, he does best with leading ladies who aren't afraid to put him in his place.
Gus is a typical Frenchie when it comes to training. He's stubborn, tries to wait you out, and attempts to outsmart you. For example, he dislikes certain weather and he while he prefers to potty in his yard over going on a walk, he'll sometimes try to sneak away to potty inside if it's raining. Additionally, while he likes walks, he wants to dictate the length. He'll attempt to grab the leash to turn you around and walk you home when he decides he's done... As a dog who was sick during most of his puppyhood, consistent walking and general training is key for his health and helping him use his energy. His best life has a regular routine that includes plenty of play and exercise.
Speaking of Gus's health, he requires regular vet visits, meds, and a prescription diet - no sneaking treats or human food! His poor breeding and lack of appropriate vet care early in life means he'll deal with life long tummy troubles, ulcerative colitis, and back issues, kyphosis. His special diet keeps him trim, happy, and healthy - all essential to ensure he lives his best life.
Gus's ideal home has adopters with extensive French Bulldog experience. His adopters must understand Frenchies, their health issues, and commit to his special diet. Gus loves to be a couch potato, his new home needs to be a moderately active environment with regular exercise to assist him in maintaining his svelte figure. To continue his house and potty training success, he needs a house with a yard, ideally a fenced yard. His new home can have dog-savvy cats, confident female dogs, and kids 10 and up.
