Ella

Ella arrived to Fawn's malnourished and weighing just over 4 lbs. We’re not sure what happened in her previous life, while we can tell that she was bred, it’s clear from her demeanor that she was also a cherished pet. Her vision is limited due to age related cataracts, which doesn't slow her down. Due to malnourishment, she has early stage renal issues, which is managed by a prescription diet and a kidney supplement.

Ella loves to eat and on June 16th she weighed just shy of 6 lbs.  We adore a senior sweetheart with a good appetite! To continue her weight gain, she does best eating 3-5 small meals daily. She eats a mix of Hill's k/d wet and dry food. She loves the soft baked prescription treats as well.

Ella adores walks and we love an active senior! She's here to stroll and sniff at a leisurely pace. She has a back end wobble, which is getting better as she's getting stronger. She'll go much  further than you thought possible. To assist Ella's sniffy exploration on uneven ground, foster mom uses a GingerLead, which will go with Ella to her new home. For longer walks, half a mile or more, foster mom brings the stroller as a back up. When Ella isn't sidewalk strolling, she enjoys wandering the yard.

Ella prefers to potty outside on walks or in the yard. This sassy lady doesn't like diapers, she'll use potty pads in her playpen, she much prefers to go outside and will try to signal you to bring her out! As she's vision limited, Ella has a "princess apartment" in her foster home. It's a large mesh playpen with plenty of space for a cozy bed, food that's safe from her foster sister, and potty pads. Her ideal home is with someone who’s around frequently for meals and potty breaks. Plus sunshine naps, strolling, and snuggles.

Ella doesn't see as well as she used to and she tends to keep her head down while walking. She's prone to running into things while she's learning a new place. She has excellent but selective hearing, she does an okay job listening to humans if they give her a heads up while she's exploring. While on walks, she's doesn't mind if other dogs and cats sniff her. She occasionally sniffs back, she has a great nose. When she does seek out another dog, such as her foster sister she gently but deliberately runs into their hindquarters.

Ella has come a long way and is ready for adoption! Her ideal home has someone who’s around frequently, ideally most of the day. She’d do best with adopters who enjoy daily walks and want to get their steps in. She doesn't require a fenced yard, but it makes night time potty breaks easier. She ignores young children, unless they're loud or get her space. Due to her size and excellent hearing, she's best suited for adults or families with older respectful teens. To management her renal condition, she must continue to eat a prescription diet and renal supplement. She had dental done and has plenty of teeth so she can easily and happily eat a combination of wet and dry food which makes the diet far more cost effective.
