Sailor, formerly Lev, is a Dachshund. His coat color is called wild boar (black, brown, tan/white) and we believe he's a silky-wire Dachshund based on his coat texture. He's around 3 years old and 12 lbs. He's neutered, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines and monthly preventatives.
Sailor came to Fawn's as a part of a recent Dachshund case in Jacksonville, FL. He arrived in a sad state, his long coat was matted and full of outdoor souvenirs. He likely spent most of his time outside with his dog friends. For his comfort and health, he was shaved. His coat is already growing out handsomely, he'll be back to his fluffy self in no time.
Sailor LOVES other dogs, he's a pack dog through and through. His new fur-ever family must have at least one doggie friends, 30 lbs or less, for him to play with. He prefers the comfort of his foster dog siblings over the humans. He's also fostered with two chill Persian cats, he'd do fine in a home with dog-savvy cats.
Sailor's house and potty training is a work in progress. He has access to potty pads inside, he's started to follow his foster siblings outside to go potty in the yard. If you can get him, he'll sometimes let you put a belly band on him to reduce indoor accidents. He'll do best in a home with friends who can copy when it comes to potty habits, he takes cues from other dogs and learns their routines.
Sailor lived in a low traffic area without a lot of the typical noises of a neighborhood, planes, and trains. He's easily startled and runs when he's scared. He also likes to chase small animals and must be supervised in a yard to ensure he doesn't find a creative way out. He's a flight risk and his new home must have a securely fenced yard.
Sailor was used as a breeding stud and is skittish when it comes to humans. He's learning his name, he likes to follow his doggie friends. He's learning to trust humans and is more likely to hang out near you if his doggie siblings are around. He needs an understanding home with loving adopters who are willing to go at his pace. Due to his shy nature, he needs an adult only home.
Sailor is ready for a loving, understanding fur-ever family. His family must have patient humans who are willing to go at his for pace. He must have a securely fenced yard and similarly sized, confident doggie siblings. His new home can have dog-savvy cats. He'd do best with adopters with breed experience, a home with other Dachshunds and Dachshund mixes is a plus!
