Henry is a 2 year old Shih Tzu mix. He's around 18 lbs with a darling gray and white coat. He's neutered, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines and monthly preventatives.
When it comes to Henry, we promise that's just how his face normally looks! Henry's photos often capture him looking a bit stoic, sullen, or even emo. He's really a happy, independent boy. He definitely enjoys his routine and like many a Shih Tzu, he has no problem reminding you if the schedule goes awry.
Henry loves to play with toys, the crinklier and squeakier the better! He enjoys playing fetch, he brings back the toy most of the time. He's delighted to entertain you with the cutest post walk, or post bath, zoomies. He also likes to dance and wiggle.
Henry does well with cats and other small dogs. He'll happily play and enjoys walking with similarly sized companions. Henry is afraid of large dogs, we're not sure what happened prior but he’s quite terrified. Henry is fostered with a kitten, at first he was unsure about the kitty. However, the kitty is now his playmate and they even share meals on occasion. He even lets the kitty cuddle him.
Henry is doing great with house and potty training. He was recently neutered and rarely gives in to his former desire to mark in the home. He has no problems going potty while leash and likes to sniff while he's out walking before he does his business. He's a delight on a leash and enjoys prancing periodically while he's out on his adventures. This boy thoroughly enjoys a nature walk, he'd be an excellent hiking companion.
Henry also loves car rides! He's a great traveler and would be excellent for someone who enjoys the RV lifestyle or other regular adventures. When Henry can't join you on errands or other adventures, he likes to nap at home. He does well in a crate and recently graduated to having full house access while his foster is out. If he does join you for car rides, he prefers to enjoy them from the safety of a doggie car seat. This raises him to window level, which also allows him to snooze in sunbeams.
When Henry arrived his skin was in a terrible state and he was underweight. He's now precisely the weight the vet wanted and his skin continues to improve. He's taking Zyrtex to help manage some allergies that contribute to his skin issues, he also enjoys a medicated bath. Did we mention the cute post bath zoomies!
Henry adores most humans, he's sometimes wary of new humans who visit the house but is lovely while out walking. Early in his time at Fawn's, he had an unexpected incident at the groomers. To ensure we understood what was going on, his foster did a temperament evaluation and got him to the vet for a medical evaluation. He passed both with no issues. He warms up to must humans quickly, especially for a Shih Tzu, and he's friendly to children of all sizes. He's a favorite of the neighbor children, who like to visit the yard and give him pets.
Henry's new home should be moderately active. He doesn't require a yard as he loves sniffy walks and is happy to go potty on a leash. Henry is rated for homes with respectful older children or one with adults. He likes having a kitty companion and can be adopted to a home with similarly sized dogs - no big dogs!
