Buddy is a handsome Dachshund with a velvety black and tan coat. He's about 8 years old and weighs around 11lbs. He's neutered, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines and monthly preventatives.
Are you looking for a best Buddy! This Buddy is versatile, his favorite activities include:
Long sniffy walks
Cozy couch cuddles
Doggie play time
Napping like a pretzel
Treats and meals
Buddy is doing well with house and potty training. He arrived with a nasty UTI due to dental issues. Thankfully antibiotics and dental work cleared that up! Buddy is happy to follow his foster sister outside to go potty in the yard, he wears a belly-band as a back up when his foster goes out for errands. Now that he's feeling better, he rarely uses it. He often takes his time to go potty and may get distracted if he finds something to chase.
Buddy has good harness and leash skills. He enjoys going for walks of all lengths. He adores long sniffy walks, to engage his keen Dachshund nose. The vet is very pleased with Buddy's weight and mobility, we love to see a trim Dachshund with an athletic figure. This smart boy quickly learned to go up doggie stairs and ramps. His foster is helping him practice using them to go down instead of jumping.
Buddy has a typical Dachshund temperament. He's an excellent alert barker, you'll know when mail or packages arrive. As you'd expect, guests are heralded with a chorus of barks and initially treated with wariness. Thankfully Buddy takes cues from his similarly sized foster sister, she adores guests and loves getting attention and many pets. Buddy has realized that when guests arrive, she gets more attention and love. He can't abide by this injustice and this helps him get over his suspicion of guests more quickly.
Buddy was used as a stud, where the breeding situation turned into a hoarding level of dogs. Given his background, he does surprisingly well with humans. As expected, he's very well socialized with similarly sized dogs. He does best with adults, he found children a bit loud and fast for his comfort. He does great with dog-savvy, calm cats. However if the cat runs he'll happily chase. As a Dachshund, he's a pro-level chaser with prey drive. He likes to play chase with his foster sister, which is a great alternative to other options.
Buddy is doing well learning the new-to-him sounds of the world, his previous environment was more rural. His foster has taken him to a variety of places to help him adjust. He's even been to church, he's best behaved if he tucked into the doggie front pack, which is his favorite seat.
Buddy's fur-every family needs patient humans, ideally adults with breed experience who are home often. No shared walls for Buddy, he's too vocal for close neighbors. He'd like moderately active humans and at least one similarly sized playful dog sibling. He's fine with calm, dog-savvy cats who don't care to run. He's yard optional as he'll go potty while out on walks.
